The Noble Rot. It was inevitable! Sooner or later we would end up in Sauternes, searching out a special “find” to bring back to the States. And here it is: Château d’Arche 1998!
Château d’Arche was created in 1580 (!) by Henri d’Arche, Doyen of the City of Bordeaux, whose wines were already amongst the most reputable of the Sauternes. During the revolution in 1789, Château d’Arche was seized by the French state, the parcels were divided, and it was not until two centuries later that it was once again unified. Situated in the heart of a 99-acre vineyard on the hills overlooking the tiny village of Sauternes, its geographic location amongst the great Sauternes vineyard allows it to greatly benefit from a particularly favorable climate and soil structure.

The 1998 vintage is a wine of elegance with good concentration. The nose is both complex and harmonious with a dominance of apricot, orange peel and exotic fruit. To the palate, this wine is very expressive, with notes of candied fruit, apricot, melon jam and grilled almonds. A MUST to accompany your foie gras, dessert or blue cheese.
